Pink Beach (Pantai Tangsi in Indonesian) is really pink, actually a mix of fine white sand with crushed red corals. An off the beaten track place of delicate secluded beauty, it will ravish the most exigent beach comber and hopefully instill in the casual visitor the desire to discover the island of Lombok, a gem too long overshadowed by it’s shiny neighbor Bali.
Where is Pink Beach Lombok, located?
Pink Beach is located in a small town, Sekaroh, on the southeast coast of Lombok, less than 100 km from its capital Mataram. It is accessible by road or sea. Lombok island is situated to the east of Bali in the Indonesian province of West Nusa Tenggara.
How to get to Pink Beach Lombok from Bali?
To get to Lombok’s Pink Beach from Bali, you have – as you sure would have guessed – first to get to the island of Lombok.
There are inexpensive ferries covering the Padangbai (east Bali, 2 hours away from the airport) to Lembar (west Lombok) route, the trip takes 4 to 6 hours and costs 4US$ for pedestrians, 10US$ for a motorbike, and 70US$ for a small car. Vessels usually leave every hour. A fun experience for the unhurried only.
Some speed boats go to Bangsal (northeast Lombok) via the Gili islands. The trip costs 25US$ and lasts around 3h. As Pink Beach is on Lombok’s southeast coast, that is not the quickest option, but you will see more of the island and are close to Mt Rinjani National Park, which would be a shame to miss anyway.
The fastest, more convenient route to Lombok is by plane: round trips start at around 50US$. Yes, it’s a whole lot less fun, but more to the point. Your call!!
Once in Lombok, you can reach Pink Beach by road, or road & boat.
From Mataram, the capital of Lombok, it will take you about 2 hours.
From Lombok International Airport, it will take you 1 hour and a half.
From Lembar, the main Port of west Lombok, it takes a 2 hour drive.
The road’s condition worsen gradually during the last 10 km towards the beach, but is doable until the end.

Where is the Pink Beach in Bali?
Why is Lombok Beach Pink?
Lombok’s Pink Beach has sand this color due to the presence of Foraminifera, small red single-celled organisms, which grow under the coral reefs giving them this striking pink color. When these organisms die, they fall to the bottom of the ocean and mix with chunks of coral and crushed shells. The mixture finally washes up on the beach and gives the sand this peculiar and flashy color.
Where to stay in Lombok Pink Beach?
The closest accommodation to the pink beach that I recommend is Jeeva Beloam Beach Camp, it has good value, it is also very beautiful and cozy and it is less than 20 minutes by motorcycle from Pink Beach.
